The award is intended to recognize a SC Sheriff who has performed the duties of his office in the highest, professional manner, bringing exceptional service to their community, and enhances the Office of Sheriff.

The nominated Sheriff must have shown unusual initiative and imagination in the performance of his duty. Years of service may be a consideration, but it is not the determining factor. Consideration will be given to the size of the agency and the resources available to the Sheriff.

1. Only a Sheriff  may submit a Sheriff of the Year nomination.  A field is provided to include names of additional Sheriffs that would like to second the nomination. The nominations are submitted on an annual basis by completing this online nomination form and providing all pertinent details and submitting electronic documentation to support the nomination. 

2. There are (3) required documents to be uploaded with the nomination:      

a. Letter of Recommendation and Nomination from a Sheriff       b. Description of Meritorious Activities c. Description of Major Accomplishments

3. The recipients are awarded at the Awards Banquet held during the SCSA Annual Conference, Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
