Medal of Valor Nominations

CRITERIA: This award is given to any Deputy Sheriff who performs actions above and beyond the call of duty; and exhibiting exceptional courage, extraordinary decisiveness, and presence of mind; or an unusual swiftness of action, regardless of his or her personal safety, to save or protect human life.

Nominated by his/her Sheriff; nominations are presented to a standing committee of Sheriffs who approve or disapprove the nomination.

Recipients are invited to the Medal of Valor Luncheon on April 22, 2026.

PROCESS AND DEADLINES:
1 - Sheriffs are asked to submit nominations on an annual basis by completing this online nomination form and providing all pertinent details by requesting and submitting electronic documentation of the incident with the nomination.

The date of the incident for the current nomination period is November 1, 2024 - December 31, 2025. (If there are acts of valor that occurred before these dates, but have not been recognized by the Association, please feel free to nominate them as well.)

In an effort to make the submission process streamlined, it is recommended that supporting documentation be scanned prior to beginning the online nomination and indexed as follows:

Upload 1 - One-page description of incident and request for nomination signed by Sheriff.

Upload 2 - Supporting incident documentation, may be multiple pages (news reports, incident reports, etc.)

2 - It is acceptable to make multiple nominations using one submission if it is related to the same incident.  If the nominees were involved in separate incidents, a separate nomination must be submitted for each incident.

3 - The nominations will be reviewed by the SCSA Medal of Valor Committee.  Upon selection by the Committee, the nominating Sheriff will be notified.

4 - The recipients are awarded at the Medal of Valor Luncheon on April 22, 2026.

5 - 2025 Nomination Deadline - Friday, January 30, 2026
